P.S.: rating variations of rounds 6-9 are posted to the FIDE period of December 2022, as the tournament finished on 31/10, too late to be included in November ratings.

ACC Spring Cup starts on Nov 7

The last tournament of the year, the Spring Cup, starts on the 7th of November. Please find your name on the list (everybody’s in one grade for now, but we’ll divide the list into A and B grades before the start). The tournament lasts six rounds and will be only NZCF-rated.

If you don’t intend to play, please let the captain know. We’ve removed those who confirmed they’re not playing. If the captain forgot about you, please let us know, too.

The club has only 80 seats, and we’re full for this tournament. New players and their parents, please remember to text the captain before 6:30 pm on Monday night if you cannot come, so others can be paired and not have to wait in vain. Thanks!

Club nights update for Oct 17, 24 and 31

Club captain Timothy Ha will be absent on Monday, 17/10 (playing as the youngest player in the Asian Seniors!) so please contact Keong Ang to notify him if you’re not coming. Message Keong if you’ve got his contacts, or write to KeongAng@ and cc: TimothyHa@ (both are gmail.com emails) before 6:30 pm.

On Monday 24/10 the club night will not be run due to the Merv Morrison Memorial tournament being held at ACC. You can register for that one and play!

The last round of the ACC Club Championship will be held on the 31st of October.

To recap: there is no club on Monday 24/10. On 17/10 contact Keong instead of Timothy 🙂

The club is open on school holidays

The club is open on school holidays and Monday nights will be held on October 3rd, 10th, and 17th. Those will be rounds 6, 7, and 8 of the Club Championship.

Only on the 24th of October, the club will be closed because of the Merv Morrison Memorial (please register).

The last round of the Club Champs will be held on the 31st of October.

If you’re travelling or cannot come on any of the mentioned Mondays, 3/10, 10/10 or 17/10, please let the captain know as usual. Thanks.

Registration is open for the September Auckland Teams Arena

Registration is now open for the Auckland Teams Arena, September edition 2022, https://newzealandchess.nz/auckland-teams-arena-september-2022/ – dates are the 24th and 25th of September (Saturday and Sunday).

The entry fee is only 20 NZD for six FIDE-rated games over one weekend.

The August edition was won by The Knightmares (again!). Individual winners were Eric Minorov and Sai Somaraju who will get ATA hoodies.

The NZCF calendar doesn’t have any other FIDE-rated classical OTB weekenders in September, so this will be the only event available, in addition to Monday and Wednesday FIDE-rated club nights at the Auckland Chess Centre and North Shore Chess Club.

Thanks all, players and parents, for staying in touch!

We started the 2022 ACC Club Champs with 75 players (44 names in A-grade and 31 in B-grade) and only one player forgot to contact the captain about missing Monday night, so there was only one forfeit loss in round 1!

Some players even notified us about their future schedule and got the 1/2 point byes pre-registered several weeks in advance.

We function all Mondays, including school holidays, so if you’re travelling or sick or cannot come on any Monday night, please let us know in advance or before 6:30 pm on Monday. Pairings are locked soon after that, and it’s frustrating when somebody travels during the city’s peak hours to the club and doesn’t get a game.
