Auckland Chess Centre (ACC) is having a series of OTB tournaments to be run throughout 2023, the Auckland Chess Weekends (ACW). These tournaments will fill the gaps between months with long weekends when ACC’s big tournaments are traditionally run. The main differences are:
- ACW events take only two days, just a normal weekend, and you can leave long weekends for bigger plans such as travelling
- ACW events are played in a slightly faster time control of 60 minutes plus 30 seconds increment, which is still considered classical by FIDE
- Unrated players in ACW events will not have to play each other, which provides an opportunity for more players to get FIDE-rated quicker.
This year, ACW would be run on the following dates:
25th and 26th March 2023 (winner: Brogan Powlesland; games: Lichess)
20th and 21st May 2023 (winner: Leo Baker; games: Lichess)
24th and 25th June 2023 (winners: Preeyansh Roul and Leo Baker; games: Lichess)
22nd and 23rd July 2023 (winner: Luna Xu; games: Lichess)
26th and 27th August 2023 (winner: Leo Baker; games: Lichess)
23rd and 24th September 2023 (winner: Leo Baker; games: Lichess)
11th and 12th November 2023
April and October are omitted as ACC would be holding the George Trundle Round-robins and ANZAC Weekender in April and Merv Morrison Memorial during the Labour Day weekend in October.
Except for December, every month you’d be able to find a classical OTB event at ACC. Welcome to play classical chess with us!
